Swelling or also known as edema is an abnormal accumulation of fluid in the tissues of the body. There are several factors that can cause swelling including pregnancy, high blood pressure and kidney problems.

Although edema can affect any part of the body, it is most commonly manifested in the feet, ankles, legs, arms, and hands.

In some cases, this condition is not that painful, but it can be very uncomfortable. However, if you notice that one of your feet or legs is swelling more than the other one, you should immediately consult a doctor because this can be a blood clot.

Today we present you 3 natural and effective remedies that can help you to relieve your swollen feet and ankles:

1. Mint Bath

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup mint leaves
  • 4 cups water

Preparation:

Put the mint leaves and the water in a pot, place it on the heat and boil them for 10 minutes. Then let the mixture cool for 10 minutes. Pour the water in a bucket and soak your feet for about 30 minutes.

2. Salt Water Bath

Epsom salt is incredible for relaxing the muscles. Just add a handful of Epsom salt in a bucket of water, enough to cover your ankles.

3. Tonic Water Bath

Maybe this sounds unbelievable, but tonic water can be significantly effective in the case of swollen feet and ankles.

You should soak your feet in a room temperature tonic water (or cold if you prefer) for 30 minutes. The bubbles and the quinine will extremely help you in reducing the inflammation.
